HUMAS FARMASI USU – The Doctoral Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara conducted a Doctoral Promotion Examination (Open Session) for the Even Semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, starting at 10:00 WIB until completion at the IMT-GT Room, 2nd Floor, BPA Building USU. This academic activity represented one of the key stages in the doctoral education process at the Faculty of Pharmacy USU.

During the open session, doctoral candidate Cholina Trisa Siregar presented her dissertation entitled “The Effectiveness of Self-Management Models for Hemodialysis Patients.” The research discussed the effectiveness of implementing self-management models for hemodialysis patients in improving quality of life, therapy adherence, and patients’ ability to independently manage their health conditions.

The doctoral promotion examination was chaired by Dr. Muhammad Anggia Muchtar, S.T., MM.IT. as the session chair. Throughout the examination process, the candidate was supervised by a promoter team consisting of Prof. Khairunnisa, S.Si., M.Pharm., Ph.D., Apt. as the main promoter, alongside Prof. Dr. Evi Karota Bukit, S.Kp., MNS., and Dr. dr. Riri A.M., M.Ked(PD)., Sp.PD-KGH., FINASIM. as co-promoters.

The doctoral examination also involved an examining committee consisting of Emil Salim, S.Farm., M.Sc., Ph.D., Apt.; Jeny Marlindawani Purba, S.Kp., MNS., Ph.D.; and Prof. Ns. Bayhakki, M.Kep., Sp.Kep. MB., Ph.D. The examiners provided scientific feedback, questions, and evaluations regarding the research findings presented during the open session.

Research on self-management among hemodialysis patients is considered to have significant contributions in the healthcare field, particularly in improving the quality of services and support for chronic kidney disease patients undergoing routine hemodialysis therapy. Through a self-management approach, patients are expected to become more active in maintaining their health, understanding their treatment, and improving adherence to medication and healthy lifestyle practices.

The implementation of this doctoral promotion examination also reflects the Faculty of Pharmacy USU’s commitment to enhancing the quality of higher education and developing research that benefits society. This academic activity is expected to produce doctoral graduates who are highly competent, innovative, and capable of making meaningful contributions to the advancement of science and healthcare services.

This activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being through improving public health quality, Goal 4: Quality Education through strengthening higher education and scientific research, and Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the development of innovation and research in healthcare and pharmaceutical sciences.
