Faculty of Pharmacy

The Gazebo at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, is a semi-open facility designed as a rest area and multipurpose space for students, faculty members, and staff. With a simple and functional structure featuring a permanent roof, partially enclosed walls, and long benches with tables, the gazebo is suitable for various informal activities such as lunch breaks, group discussions, collaborative study sessions, or casual relaxation.

Located in a shaded and green part of the campus, the gazebo is also equipped with separated waste bins, promoting cleanliness and environmental awareness. Its presence contributes to a comfortable, inclusive, and socially interactive campus environment that supports informal learning and community building within the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Asy-Syifa Mosque is a dedicated worship facility located within the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Designed to be spacious and architecturally impressive, the mosque can accommodate a large number of worshippers. It serves as a central place of worship for the Muslim academic community and surrounding residents, primarily for the five daily prayers and other religious activities.

Beyond its function as a prayer space, Asy-Syifa Mosque also acts as a hub for Islamic activities, including regular religious lectures, study sessions, and community outreach events that foster spiritual growth and character development among students. The mosque reflects the faculty’s commitment to supporting religious values within the campus environment.

The Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory is the result of a merger between the Organic Chemistry Laboratory, the Drug Synthesis Laboratory, and the Biochemistry Laboratory. From its establishment until 2021, these laboratories have functioned primarily as educational laboratories supporting practical sessions for students in the Diploma Program in Pharmaceutical and Food Analysis and the Undergraduate Program in Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Each year, the laboratory facilitates approximately seven practicum courses related to pharmaceutical and biomedical chemistry.

Beyond educational activities, the Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory also serves as a key facility for student research at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, involving topics such as drug development, synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical excipients, and the analysis of functional foods and nutraceuticals. These research activities involve students from both within and outside the Faculty of Pharmacy, as well as from other institutions outside USU.

The laboratory plays a strategic role in supporting the university’s Tri Dharma—education, research, and community service. In addition to its academic and research functions, the laboratory also provides sample testing and analytical services to external institutions and the general public. With its resources and advanced equipment, the Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory is a vital pillar in reinforcing the Faculty of Pharmacy USU’s position as a leading institution in pharmaceutical sciences.
