The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, hosted a guest lecture by Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan, Ph.D., discussing targeted drug delivery research for autoimmune diseases. This event paved the way for potential research collaborations with The University of Kansas, USA.
The event began with an opening speech by the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Mrs. Marianne, S.Si., M.Si., Apt. In her remarks, she explained that the guest lecture was part of the Faculty of Pharmacy's initiatives to enhance the knowledge of its teaching staff and students.
Additionally, she expressed her hope that this guest lecture could serve as an initial step toward collaboration between the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan, Ph.D., potentially leading to further partnerships with The University of Kansas, USA.
Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan, Ph.D., in his presentation titled "Vaccines and Immunity," discussed targeted drug delivery, which combines biomaterials, peptides, and proteins. He shared his research findings on targeted drug delivery, specifically for treatments addressing autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis. The guest lecture was enthusiastically received by faculty members and students.
Attendees included lecturers from Universitas Sumatera Utara's Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Public Health, pharmacists from H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan, and lecturers from Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Sari Mutiara Indonesia. Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan extended significant opportunities for researchers interested in sandwich programs, post-doctoral studies, and research collaborations. He requested that interested researchers obtain a recommendation from a professor at Universitas Sumatera Utara and contact him via email at siahaan@ku.edu.
The guest lecture concluded with the presentation of a plaque to the speaker and certificates to the participants.
