The Association of Indonesian Pharmacy Higher Education (AIPHE) or Asosiasi Perguruan Tinggi Farmasi Indonesia (APTFI) Regional I Sumatera, in collaboration with Ismafarsi, successfully organized The 2nd International Summer School 2021 under the theme Utilization of Sumatera Native Plants as Immunomodulators. Although the focus was on Sumatera's native plants with immunomodulatory potential, the event was open to both domestic and international pharmacy students.
Participants from 16 countries joined the event, including Bosnia Herzegovina, Brazil, the Democratic Republic of Congo, East Timor, Egypt, Guatemala, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
The program ran from August 23–26, 2021, online via APTFI Digital Channel. It was the first event to use this platform, enabling participants to view delayed broadcasts of the sessions. On the final day, Universitas Sumatera Utara featured speakers Yuandani, S.Farm., M.Si., Ph.D., Apt., and Emil Salim, S.Farm., M.Sc., Ph.D., Apt.

APTFI Regional I Sumatera entrusted apt. Khairunnisa, S.Si., M.Pharm., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (2021–2026), as the event’s chairperson. It was a great honor for Universitas Sumatera Utara to take an active role in this international event.

The event featured daily university profiles, cultural performances, virtual hospital visits, and webinars from 08:30 AM to 12:30 PM WIB. Additionally, nominations for The Best Performances and The Best Participants were awarded.
