Medan, August 13, 2026 — The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through the Pharmacist Professional Education Study Program, organized the Pharmacist Professional Education Student Orientation (Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru/PKKMB) on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The activity, held at the 1st Floor Hall of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU, was attended by 114 new students of the Pharmacist Professional Education Study Program.

The activity was attended by the Head of the Pharmacist Professional Education Study Program, Hari Ronaldo Tanjung, S.Si., M.Sc., Apt., and the Secretary of the Pharmacist Professional Education Study Program, Mariadi, S.Farm., M.Si., Apt. The presence of the study program leadership played an important role in providing welcoming remarks, guidance, and an introduction to the academic environment and professional pharmacist education system at the Faculty of Pharmacy USU.

The Pharmacist Professional Education Student Orientation served as an initial opportunity for the 114 new students to become more familiar with the academic environment, learning culture, regulations, and various activities they will undertake throughout their professional education. Through this activity, students are expected to gain a clear understanding of their rights and responsibilities as students and prospective professional pharmacy practitioners.

In their guidance, the Pharmacist Professional Education Study Program leadership encouraged students to participate in all stages of the educational process responsibly, uphold academic integrity, and actively develop their competencies. Pharmacist professional education focuses not only on mastery of knowledge but also on developing the professional skills, ethics, communication abilities, and attitudes required to provide pharmaceutical services to the community.

The PKKMB activity also forms part of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU’s efforts to prepare graduates who are capable of responding to the continuously evolving needs of healthcare services. By providing orientation and preparation from the beginning of their education, students are expected to establish a strong academic and professional foundation as preparation for entering pharmaceutical practice.

The activity was aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. Quality education for prospective pharmacists plays an important role in preparing professional healthcare personnel who will be able to provide pharmaceutical services that are safe, effective, high-quality, and oriented toward patient safety.

In addition, the activity also supports SDG 4: Quality Education. The provision of high-quality, structured, and competency-based professional education represents a contribution by higher education institutions to producing competent and competitive human resources.

With the successful implementation of the Pharmacist Professional Education Student Orientation, the Faculty of Pharmacy USU welcomes 114 new students as they begin their professional education journey. The activity is expected to serve as an important first step in developing prospective pharmacists who are competent, ethical, professional, and capable of making meaningful contributions to improving public health and advancing sustainable development.
