Lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, conducted an entrepreneurship training for students of SMA Swasta HKBP Sidorame Medan, featuring a demonstration of herbal foot salt production. This activity aims to foster students' entrepreneurial spirit using simple materials.
Lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, conducted a community service activity by providing entrepreneurship training to students of SMA Swasta HKBP Sidorame Medan on Friday (15/7). The community service team was led by Chemayanti Surbakti, S.Farm., M.Si., Apt., with members Muhammad Fauzan Lubis, M.Farm., Apt., and Nur Aira Juwita, S.Farm., M.Si., Apt.
The activity was carried out by the team and students, during which the participants were given a pretest and posttest. Enthusiastically participating in the activity, the students were taught to make herbal foot salt preparations in groups and gained new knowledge about entrepreneurship development. “We started the activity with a socialization session, followed by a demonstration of herbal foot salt production and marketing strategies to generate profit,” said Chemayanti.
In producing herbal foot salt, students were taught to use simple, affordable ingredients such as Epsom salt, calamus root, and lemon peel. “The calamus root and lemon peel were first processed into simplicia powder through drying and slicing,” she explained. After that, the three ingredients were mixed to form a homogeneous preparation. “Through this training, we hope the students gain skills in making herbal foot salt preparations that can reduce foot odor, relax the feet, and help boost the immune system,” she said.
Gratitude was expressed by the Vice Principal, Leny Napitupulu, who stated, “This training is something we should be grateful for as we have gained new knowledge here. Hopefully, the knowledge shared will benefit us and become a business opportunity.” The event concluded with a group photo and the distribution of the prepared calamus herbal foot salt to teachers and students of SMA Swasta HKBP Sidorame.
