The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Sumatera Utara held an oath-taking ceremony for 180 new pharmacists on Thursday, March 15, 2017, at the Faculty Auditorium. The event was attended by the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, representatives of the National Pharmacy Committee, representatives from the Provincial Health Office of North Sumatra, the Chair of the North Sumatra Regional Board of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI), and the Chair of the Medan City Branch of IAI.
The pharmacist professional education is an advanced program following a bachelor's degree in pharmacy, lasting two semesters. During their studies, pharmacist candidates engage in theoretical learning and professional practice in various government and private hospitals, PT. Kimia Farma, and numerous pharmaceutical industries in North Sumatra. The examiner committee for the pharmacist examination comprises faculty members of USU’s pharmacy department, the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (Badan POM), H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Kimia Farma, IAI, and other pharmaceutical industries.
