The Faculty of Pharmacy at USU inaugurated 140 new pharmacists on October 5, 2017, raising the total number of graduates to 3,216. The event was graced by notable figures, emphasizing the commitment to producing competent professionals.

Joy filled the atmosphere for 140 prospective pharmacists who were sworn in on October 5, 2017, at the Auditorium on the 2nd Floor of the Faculty of Pharmacy Building, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). The happiness was amplified by the presence of parents and guardians who attended to witness their children step into the professional world of pharmacy.

 

 

The event was attended by Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Garis Siregar, M.Ked.(O.G.), Sp.O.G.(K.) (Vice Rector II of USU), Prof. Dr. Masfria, M.S., Apt. (Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at USU), Dr. Aminah Dalimunthe (Head of the Pharmacist Education Program at the Faculty of Pharmacy at USU), Dra. Endang Adriyani, MARS, Apt. (Representative of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association), and Dra. Suzana Indah Astuti, M.Si., Apt. (Member of the National Pharmacy Committee).

 

 

Additionally, the event was graced by several distinguished guests, including the Chairperson of the North Sumatra Regional Board of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (represented by Drs. Djamidin Manurung, M.M., Apt.), the Head of the North Sumatra Provincial Health Office (represented by Dr. Kustinah, M.Kes.), the Head of the Medan City Health Office (represented by Santi M. Manullang, S.Si., Apt.), the Head of the Food and Drug Administration Office in Medan, Yanti Agustini, S.Si., M.Kes., Apt., and a representative from Kimia Farma, Yurista Gilang, S.Farm., Apt.

 

 

In his speech, the Vice Rector II of USU noted that since 2006, the Faculty of Pharmacy at USU has inaugurated 2,052 pharmacists. This brings the total number of pharmacists graduated by USU to 3,216, including 1,174 pharmacists who graduated when the Faculty of Pharmacy was still part of FMIPA USU. Pharmacists are professionals with expertise and authority in pharmaceutical practices, including the management, procurement, storage, and distribution of medicines.

 

 

According to Dra. Endang Adriyani, MARS, Apt., this inauguration is part of 3,973 graduates from 31 pharmacist programs with a 96.7% graduation rate. The ceremony adhered to the regulations of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, represented by the National Pharmacy Committee, the Indonesian Pharmacists Association, and Universitas Sumatera Utara as the educational institution. During the event, the new pharmacists also received important documents required to obtain their practice licenses, including diplomas from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Competency Certificates from the Indonesian Pharmacists Association, and Oath and Registration Certificates from the National Pharmacy Committee.

 

 

Dra. Suzana Indah Astuti, M.Si., Apt., highlighted the importance of a standardized and high-quality competency exam to ensure competent pharmacist graduates. Starting in January 2018, the UKAI CBT will be implemented as an exit exam, allowing students to take the competency exam upon completing their coursework, as verified by a letter from the dean.

 

 

Dr. Kustinah, M.Kes., emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders in addressing health issues. The Provincial Government is committed to providing affordable and transparent healthcare services to meet public demands.

 

At the end of the event, the new pharmacists took photos with the Vice Rector II, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty Advisory Board, Faculty of Pharmacy lecturers, and invited guests.
