Medan, August 14, 2026 — The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held the Campus Life Introduction Program for New Students (PKKMB) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year from August 12–14, 2026. The program served as an important opportunity to welcome and prepare new students to enter the academic environment and become part of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU community.

The PKKMB series began with an opening ceremony at the Universitas Sumatera Utara Twin Field, officially opened by the Rector of USU. Following the ceremony, new students were directed to their respective faculties to participate in faculty-level campus life introduction activities. At the Faculty of Pharmacy USU, the new students were welcomed directly by the Dean, Vice Deans, and the entire academic community of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU. Approximately 176 new students of the Undergraduate Pharmacy Program participated in the program with great enthusiasm.

In his welcoming remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU said, “Welcome to all new students of the Undergraduate Pharmacy Program, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Welcome to the Faculty of Pharmacy USU community.”

The Dean expressed gratitude and pride in welcoming the new students as members of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU community. The students were considered to have made the right choice in pursuing knowledge and preparing themselves to become a generation that can contribute to the nation and the people of Indonesia.

This year’s PKKMB at the Faculty of Pharmacy USU carried the theme “METAMORPH: Motivating Excellence Through Adaptation, Transformation, Opportunity, Resilience, and Professional Harmony.” The theme represents the transformation journey of new students, similar to the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. Through education and experiences during their university years, students are expected to transform into outstanding, resilient, adaptive, ethical, and professional members of the academic community.

The Dean also emphasized that university life presents different challenges and environments compared with secondary school. Therefore, new students need to make various adjustments, learn to adapt to their new surroundings, develop maturity, and equip themselves with knowledge and skills that will serve as preparation for entering the workforce.

“All of this requires hard work and sincere dedication to learning, accompanied by effort and prayer,” the Dean advised the new students.

Throughout the program, new students were also introduced to the profile of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU, the academic environment, learning systems, student life, and various achievements of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU. This introduction was intended to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of their roles and responsibilities as members of the academic community.

PKKMB is not merely a ceremonial welcoming event for new students but also serves as an initial stage in developing character, academic culture, and readiness to undertake higher education. Through this program, students are expected to develop a strong motivation to learn, self-confidence, adaptability, and a commitment to becoming competent and professional future pharmaceutical professionals.

The implementation of PKKMB at the Faculty of Pharmacy USU is closely connected to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education. Through the campus life introduction program, new students receive guidance on the academic environment, learning processes, character development, and skills needed to pursue higher education effectively. This contributes to the development of inclusive, quality education oriented toward student competency development.

The program also supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. As students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, participants are prepared to develop an understanding of and awareness of the healthcare sector and the role of the pharmaceutical profession in improving public health.

Furthermore, the values of adaptation, transformation, resilience, integrity, and professionalism emphasized through the “METAMORPH” theme also support SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Developing competencies and character from the beginning of higher education is an important part of preparing graduates with the skills, professional ethics, and readiness required to enter the workforce.

Through PKKMB 2026, the Faculty of Pharmacy USU is committed to creating an educational environment that supports students’ academic and personal growth. New students are expected to undergo their own “metamorphosis” throughout their education at the Faculty of Pharmacy USU and ultimately become outstanding, ethical, adaptive, resilient, and professional graduates who can make meaningful contributions to society and national development.
