PUBLIC RELATION OF PHARMACY USU – The Faculty of Pharmacy at USU welcomed Professor Taifo Mahmud to the Faculty of Pharmacy on Monday, October 23, 2023. He was an alumnus of The Faculty of Pharmacy in 1989 for his Bachelor Degree and in 1991 for his Pharmacist Professional Education. Currently, he is a professor at Oregon State University, USA in the fields of natural product chemistry and drug discovery. His arrival at Faculty of Pharmacy was welcomed by the Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy and all lecturers and staff within the Faculty of Pharmacy. His activity in visiting the USU Pharmacy was a series of activities organized by USU.
During his visit this time, he explained that the world of research is focusing on the discovery and development of medicines sourced from natural resources. These natural resources can be obtained from plants or animals. In line with the research conducted by Prof. Taifo, he developed a sunscreen made from natural ingredients that can be used to protect the skin from exposure to sunlight. His sunscreen also has several advantages, such as not polluting the environment and having minimal side effects for the body.
Professor Taifo also said that currently there are more and more opportunities for Indonesian students to continue their education abroad with the various sufficient scholarships. Therefore, they can establish various collaborative research projects internationally. Professor Taifo also advised that to master a science, you must be an expert in that field.
