The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), in collaboration with PT Kimia Farma Tbk, held an Expert Guest Lecture featuring Hendra Farma Johar, M.Si., Apt., to broaden students’ insights into the dynamics and innovations of Indonesia’s pharmaceutical industry.
USU FACULTY OF PHARMACY PR — In an effort to strengthen the connection between academia and industry, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) organized an Expert Guest Lecture in collaboration with PT Kimia Farma Tbk. The event, held within the Faculty of Pharmacy environment, featured Mr. Hendra Farma Johar, M.Si., Apt., an experienced professional in the national pharmaceutical industry, as the keynote speaker.
The activity served as an important platform for students to gain practical insights into the dynamics of Indonesia’s pharmaceutical industry. In his presentation, Mr. Hendra Farma Johar discussed various strategic topics, including drug production management, pharmaceutical quality systems, distribution regulations, and the challenges of digital transformation in pharmaceutical manufacturing. He also emphasized the importance of continuous collaboration between academia and practitioners to produce competent, adaptive, and competitive graduates ready to enter the workforce.
Through this event, the USU Faculty of Pharmacy reaffirmed its commitment to bridging students with the realities of the dynamic and evolving pharmaceutical industry. This initiative aligns with the university’s vision of producing highly competitive graduates and supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
In the context of the SDGs, this guest lecture not only enriched students’ knowledge but also strengthened the partnership bridge between higher education institutions and the industrial sector. This collaboration is consistent with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), highlighting that cross-sector cooperation is key to building a relevant, innovative, and sustainable higher education system.
In her opening remarks, the Dean of the USU Faculty of Pharmacy expressed appreciation to PT Kimia Farma Tbk for its active participation in supporting the enhancement of student competence.
The event continued with an interactive Q&A session, where students enthusiastically discussed career opportunities, pharmaceutical product development, and industrial innovations toward sustainable and environmentally friendly drug production.
With the successful implementation of this Expert Guest Lecture, the USU Faculty of Pharmacy reinforces its commitment to delivering learning experiences based on collaboration, innovation, and real-world practice. The goal is to nurture a generation of professional pharmacists ready to contribute to both national and global health development.
