This ceremony is the official process for graduates of the USU Faculty of Pharmacy Professional Pharmacist Program to be legally appointed as pharmacists. In this procession, graduates recited the pharmacist’s oath in front of the faculty leaders, religious figures, and IAI representatives, as a form of commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities.

The main participants were graduates of the Professional Pharmacist Program Batch XXXVIII, numbering dozens. The event was also attended by the Dean of the USU Faculty of Pharmacy, vice deans, supervising lecturers, families of the graduates, and IAI representatives. The presence of parents and families served as moral support in accompanying the graduates as they entered the professional world.

The ceremony was held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Faculty of Pharmacy Hall, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan. The choice of location provided a solemn yet familiar atmosphere, as it was held within the academic environment that had been the learning home for the graduates.

The oath-taking ceremony is a crucial milestone in a pharmacy graduate’s career journey. By taking the oath, graduates are not only legally recognized to practice pharmacy but also affirm their ethical and moral commitment to uphold professionalism, integrity, and provide the best service for the community.

The event proceeded solemnly, beginning with a report from the organizing committee chair, followed by remarks from faculty leaders, recitation of the pharmacist’s oath by religious representatives according to each graduate’s faith, and the signing of the oath minutes. The procession concluded with a joint prayer and a photo session.

This activity aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being): producing pharmacists ready to deliver quality health services.

  • SDG 4 (Quality Education): reflecting the success of higher education in producing professional graduates.

  • SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth): preparing professionals ready to enter the workforce in pharmacy.

  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): strengthening collaboration between the faculty, professional organizations, and society in supporting healthcare services.

Through this oath-taking ceremony, the USU Faculty of Pharmacy hopes that graduates will not only succeed individually but also make real contributions to improving public health quality. The new pharmacists are expected to become competent, ethical professionals capable of innovating in addressing the challenges of the evolving healthcare sector.
