HUMAS FARMASI USU – Universitas Sumatera Utara has once again achieved international recognition through one of its lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy. Sony Eka Nugraha, S.Farm., M.Si., Apt., was awarded Best Poster Presenter at the 13th International Conference on Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS 2026) held in Osaka, Japan.

In this achievement, Sony Eka Nugraha successfully earned a prestigious international award at ICCBS 2026, a scientific conference attended by researchers and academics from various countries. The award is presented to participants with the best poster presentation quality, based on evaluations by an international panel of judges.

This success is closely tied to the quality of the research presented, which was considered innovative, applicable, and capable of making a meaningful contribution to the advancement of knowledge, particularly in the fields of pharmacy and science. In addition, the ability to present research findings in a systematic, communicative, and engaging manner played a significant role in the assessment process. Participants were required to undergo rigorous evaluation stages, including the assessment of scientific substance, poster design, and the ability to defend and explain their research before judges and fellow conference participants.

Beyond individual achievement, this accomplishment also contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It reflects SDG 4 (Quality Education) by demonstrating that the education and research system at Universitas Sumatera Utara is capable of producing globally competitive academics. Furthermore, the research presented has the potential to contribute to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), considering the vital role of pharmacy in developing medicines, therapies, and improving healthcare quality.

Additionally, the innovation generated through this research aligns with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), as it supports the advancement of science and technology applicable to the pharmaceutical industry and the broader healthcare sector. Participation in international conferences such as ICCBS also strengthens global networks and cross-country collaboration, supporting SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and future research opportunities.

This achievement further strengthens the reputation of Universitas Sumatera Utara as a higher education institution that not only excels nationally but is also capable of competing and contributing at the international level. It is hoped that this accomplishment will inspire the entire academic community to continue innovating, enhancing research quality, and elevating Indonesia’s name on the global stage.
