The Master's and Doctoral Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at Universitas Sumatera Utara successfully held a webinar titled "Optimization of Traditional Medicine Processing to Enhance the National Economy" on September 15, 2021. Featuring experts from B2P2TOOT and PT. Gondowangi, the event explored the potential of traditional medicine for societal welfare.

The Master's and Doctoral Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences held a webinar titled "Optimization of Traditional Medicine Processing to Enhance the National Economy" on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

This webinar is an annual program of the Master's and Doctoral Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara. It aims to continuously develop and practically apply knowledge for the advancement of science and the benefit of society.

 

The theme, "Optimization of Traditional Medicine Processing to Enhance the National Economy," reflects the vision of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Sumatera Utara: "To become a leading pharmacy higher education institution in Indonesia with international standards and local excellence." Hence, this webinar emphasized traditional medicine as a local strength.

 

The event featured speakers from the Research and Development Center for Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine (B2P2TOOT), Dr. Harto Widodo, M.Biotech., and the Business Development Manager of PT. Gondowangi, Tio Angelina.

 

 

The webinar was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Khairunnisa, S.Si., M.Pharm., Ph.D., Apt., after welcome speeches from her and the Head of the Master's and Doctoral Program, Prof. Dr. Urip Harahap, Apt. A profile video of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Graduate Program was also screened during the event.

 

Moderated by Henny Sri Wahyni, S.Farm., M.Si., Apt., the materials were presented alternately by the two speakers. Dr. Harto Widodo, M.Biotech., delivered a presentation titled "The Potential of Medicinal Plants for Welfare and National Progress through Traditional Medicine," while Tio Angelina presented "Trends and Development of Extracts in Cosmetics."

 

The webinar was conducted online via Zoom and was also streamed on the official YouTube channel of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Participants included faculty members and students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, who could join the webinar free of charge and receive 2 IAI CPD credits.
