USU Faculty of Pharmacy lecturers in collaboration with the International Islamic University Malaysia carried out international service for smoking cessation assistance at SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Pura, Langkat. The service team explained the smoking cessation method and distributed educational books to students, Wednesday (21/8).

USU PHARMACY PUBLIC RELATIONS – In community service with an international service scheme, a collaboration between lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara and International Islamic University Malaysia provided smoking cessation assistance to students of SMA Negeri I Tanjung Pura, Langkat on Wednesday (21/8).

The service team was led by Marianne, S.Si., M.Si., Apt with members Emil Salim, S.Farm., M.Sc., Ph.D., Apt; Lia Laila, S.Farm., M.Sc., Apt; apt. Ade Sri Rohani, S.Farm., M.Farm; apt. Nurul Suci S.Farm., M.Farm; and Prof. Dr. Mohamad Haniki bin Nik Mohamed. The team also involved students from the USU Undergraduate Program in Pharmacy, namely Syarifah Balqis Nuwsath, Rasheed bin Rusdi, Adlina Natarsha Anuar Sadad, Yudhi Johansen, and Husnul Khatimah.

In this service activity, the team explained the approach and assistance in smoking cessation for students at SMA Negeri I Tanjung Pura. In addition, the team also distributed smoking cessation counseling forms that students need to fill out as part of the approach. This service team also provided output in the form of a book entitled, “An integrated approach to smoking cessation: Epidemiology, management, and health services”. The book is a translation of the Malaysian Academy of Pharmacy (MAP).

The team hopes that this service can provide education to students, both those who have never smoked and those who may have or have routinely done smoking, to be able to stop the smoking habit, by knowing the epidemilogy from the presentation and books that have been given.
