HUMAS FACULTY OF PHARMACY USU – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), demonstrates its commitment to improving public health through participation in the National Campaign for the Prevention of Abuse of Certain Drugs (OOT), organized by the Medan Center for Drug and Food Control (BBPOM).
In this activity, the Faculty of Pharmacy USU was represented by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization, who attended on behalf of the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU. On this occasion, a Joint Commitment Signing on the Handling and Prevention of Abuse of Certain Drugs (OOT) was carried out as a form of support for strengthening drug supervision, public education, and the protection of young generations from the impact of drug abuse. This activity is part of a joint effort among various stakeholders to address the issue of certain drug abuse, which remains a concern in Indonesia. Abuse of OOT not only affects individual health but can also lead to various social problems that impact families, communities, and society at large.
As a higher education institution focused on pharmaceutical science development, the Faculty of Pharmacy USU views drug abuse prevention as requiring a comprehensive and sustainable approach. Therefore, collaboration between universities, government bodies, healthcare professionals, regulatory agencies, and the public is a crucial factor in creating a safer and healthier environment.
Through education, research, community service, and various outreach activities, the Faculty of Pharmacy USU continues to improve public literacy regarding safe, rational, and responsible drug use. In addition, raising awareness of the dangers of drug abuse is also part of its academic contribution to supporting public health. Participation in this national campaign further emphasizes the Faculty of Pharmacy USU’s commitment to actively supporting policies and programs aimed at strengthening public protection against the risks of drug abuse. With strong synergy among stakeholders, prevention efforts are expected to become more effective and have a sustainable positive impact.
The involvement of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU in the National Campaign for the Prevention of Abuse of Certain Drugs (OOT) supports the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being: Supporting drug abuse prevention through education, health promotion, and increased public awareness of safe and rational drug use.
- SDG 4 – Quality Education: Promoting health and pharmaceutical literacy through educational activities aimed at improving public understanding of proper drug use.
- SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: Strengthening drug monitoring and control systems through collaboration between educational institutions, government, and regulatory agencies.
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Establishing synergy between universities, BBPOM, healthcare professionals, and various stakeholders in preventing the abuse of certain drugs.
Through this participation in the national campaign, the Faculty of Pharmacy USU hopes to continue contributing to increasing public awareness of safe and responsible drug use, while supporting the creation of a healthy, productive society free from drug abuse.
