The Faculty of Pharmacy USU organized a hearing to formulate the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the D-III Pharmacy and Food Analyst Program. The event featured five speakers from various institutions.

On Thursday, July 20, 2017, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Sumatera Utara held a public hearing to formulate the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the D-III Pharmacy and Food Analyst Program in the Meeting Room, 2nd Floor of the Faculty of Pharmacy. The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and featured five speakers from various institutions: Dra. Gita Baringin Nasution, Apt. (National Agency of Drug and Food Control in Medan); Bisma, S.Si., Apt. (Pharmacy Alumni Association of USU); Dra. Nurminda Silalahi, M.Si., Apt. (Pharmacy Installation of H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan); Darwin Syamsul, S.Si., M.Si., Apt. (Regional Coordinator of the Indonesian Diploma Pharmacy Education Association); and Drs. Herry Rustanto, Apt. [PT. Kimia Farma (Tbk.) Plant Medan]. In addition to the leadership, lecturers, administrative staff, and students of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Sumatera Utara were also present.

The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, in her opening remarks, stated that this activity would support the reaccreditation of the D-III Program in 2019. Meanwhile, Dra. Gita Baringin Nasution, Apt., a speaker from BPOM Medan, emphasized that students must master proper production and distribution procedures. They must also possess fundamental knowledge and skills in operating analytical instruments such as HPLC, GCMS, and AAS. Bisma, S.Si., Apt., a speaker from the USU Pharmacy Alumni Association, pointed out several issues in the pharmaceutical trade industry caused by societal changes and government healthcare policies, while pharmacy trade systems have remained unchanged. As a result, pharmacies unable to adapt are left behind. The solution lies in improving pharmacy management systems, including stock management and customer service.

According to Dra. Nurminda Silalahi, M.Si., Apt., a speaker from the Pharmacy Installation of H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan, the procurement and storage of medicines will be managed by D-III pharmacy graduates, and the task of dispensing medicines to patients in hospitals will also be assigned to them. Meanwhile, Darwin Syamsul, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., from APDFI, explained that the Akafarma curriculum could align with the Anafarma curriculum by adding pharmaceutics courses to the Akafarma curriculum.

Drs. Herry Rustanto, Apt., suggested that the D-III Program could include courses on water processing, HPAC systems, production management, GLP, GMP, qualification and certification, as well as foster leadership qualities among students. The event concluded with the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy presenting tokens of appreciation to the speakers.
