USU's Faculty of Pharmacy Strengthens Global Network Through the Signing of an MoU with a Japanese University and Participation in the 2025 Asian Association of Schools of Pharmacy Conference
USU Faculty of Pharmacy Public Relations – Universitas Sumatera Utara’s (USU) Faculty of Pharmacy has taken a strategic international step by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several universities in Japan and participating in the 2025 Asian Association of Schools of Pharmacy (AASP) Conference, held from August 2–5, 2025, in Saitama, Japan.
The signing of this MoU serves as a strengthening of international academic and research networks. The USU Faculty of Pharmacy delegation attended the event in person to forge partnerships with Japanese universities, covering areas such as student and faculty exchange, collaborative research, joint publications, and the development of a pharmaceutical curriculum adapted to global needs.
USU Faculty of Pharmacy’s participation in the AASP 2025 Conference also served as a platform for knowledge sharing and experience exchange with academics and researchers from various Asian countries. The conference brought together hundreds of participants from pharmacy schools across Asia to discuss current issues, educational innovations, and the role of pharmacy in supporting sustainable healthcare systems.
The Dean of the USU Faculty of Pharmacy stated that participation in this event is part of USU’s vision to become a world-class university. With this MoU, the USU Faculty of Pharmacy hopes to expand opportunities for students to study abroad, strengthen faculty research capabilities, and bring innovations in health and pharmacy that benefit society.
This international activity supports the achievement of severalSustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 4 (Quality Education): cooperation opens opportunities to enhance the quality of higher education through international mobility and joint research.
SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure): collaborative research with Japanese universities is expected to yield new innovations in pharmaceutical and health technologies.
SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): the MoU symbolizes the strengthening of global partnerships in education, research, and pharmaceutical innovation.
Through this activity, the USU Faculty of Pharmacy not only expands its international network but also prepares to contribute to the development of global pharmaceutical knowledge while supporting sustainable development through education and research.
