USU PHARMACY PR - USU Faculty of Pharmacy lecturers carried out community service activities at the Serasi Jaya Farmer Group, Dusun 7 Kampung Banten, Silau Rakyat Village, Sei Rampah District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, on Saturday (13/8). The community service team consisted of Prof. Dr. apt. Julia Reveny, M.Si., as the leader, and the members consist of Prof. Dr. Apt. Masfria, M.S., apt. Nur Aira Juwita, S.Farm., M.Si., apt. Hafid Syahputra, S.Farm., M.Si., and seven USU Undergraduate Program in Pharmacy students who participated in this program.

"Counseling and Training on Processed Cassava to Improve the Economy and Public Health Checks at the Serasi Jaya Farmer Group" is the theme carried out by this service team. Prof. Dr. apt. Julia Reveny, M.Si., the team leader, said, "The team chose Silau Rakyat Village as the location of the activity because most of the people here farm cassava. So we hope the community can apply the material presented to fulfill personal needs and increase income and the economy."

The activity was opened by Muhammad Yunus, the head of Serasi Jaya Serdang Bedagai Farmer Group. In this activity, the team conducted counseling on the benefits of cassava as a whole, from the leaves to the tubers, which can be processed into various foodstuffs. The community gained new insights into the benefits of cassava and created an innovation from cassava: Natural Tapioca Sugar, which is low in calories and can prevent tooth decay.

In addition, the team also provided teaching materials on how to make body scrubs from cassava peels. In the material, the service team explained how to make body scrubs by mixing cream with cassava peels, which are exfoliators, so that the scrubs can more optimally remove dead skin cells.

The community also received free health checks, which included checking blood sugar, cholesterol, uric acid, and blood pressure levels, and had the opportunity to consult directly with a pharmacist.

The activity was closed with a group photo, handing over souvenirs, distributing basic necessities, and giving body scrub preparations to community service participants.
