USU PHARMACY PR - USU Faculty of Pharmacy lecturers carried out community service with the theme “Education on Simplisia Processing of Medicinal Plants and Their Prepared Products” in Liang Pematang Village, Sinembah Tanjung Muda Hulu District, Deli Serdang Regency, Saturday (7/30).

This activity is carried out to fulfill the Three Pillars of Higher Education, routinely carried out yearly. Also present were Liang Pematang Village Head Bahagia Tarigan and the community service team consisting of Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Effendy De Lux Putra, SU, Apt. as the team leader, with members Henny Sri Wahyuni, S.Farm., M.Si, Apt. and Bayu Eko Prasetyo, S.Farm., M.Sc, Apt., and assisted by several USU Undergraduate Program in Pharmacy students, namely Zahratul Aini, Annisah, Fauzan, and Wahyu.

The service begins with the community filling out a pre-test to determine the community’s basic knowledge of the material to be delivered.

“This community service program is important in increasing public awareness about the use of plants that can be used as medicines, especially medicinal plants found in the Liang Pematang Village area, and training the creativity of the surrounding community,” explained the Head of the Community Service Team Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Effendy De Lux Putra, SU, Apt.

The material presentation was presented by Henny Sri Wahyuni, S.Farm., M.Si, Apt., regarding the stages of simplistic preparation, starting from the collection of raw materials to the process of checking the quality of simplicity. This was followed by a video screening of preparing simplisia and making products consisting of two types of herbal tea: Moringa leaf tea with ginger mixture and tea with rosella flowers, sappan wood, and cloves.

The community seemed enthusiastic about participating in the training. At the end of the activity, the team gave the community souvenirs of herbal tea made from medicinal plants simplisia. The Liang Pematang Village community can enjoy the tea products provided so that participants can feel the pleasure and efficacy of herbal tea made from medicinal plants simplisia.
