Master's Program (S-2)

The Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Science at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) was established in 2000 and has achieved a Very Good (A) accreditation rating. As an advanced level education program from the Undergraduate Program in Pharmacy, the main focus of our program are pharmaceutical biology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, and pharmaceutics.

The commitment of the Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Science is to produce graduates who are innovative, tested, qualified, and have high integrity with international standards. The students are assisted by lecturers who are nationally certified, widely experienced, and experts in the field of pharmacy. Graduates of our program are expected to smoothly manage, lead, and develop research in various fields of pharmaceutical biology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, and pharmaceutics.

History

2000

Based on Decree No. 372/Dikti/Kep/2000, the Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences was established under the management of the USU Postgraduate School with the Head of Study Program, Prof. Dr. Sumadio Hadisaputra, Apt. and Secretary of Study Program, Prof. Dr. Urip Harahap, Apt. at that time.

2001

The USU Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences was operationally under the USU Postgraduate School and began accepting new students in August 2001.

2006

On August 3, 2006, the USU Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences received a B (Good) Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT).

2009

In 2009, based on the Decree of the Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara No. 17013/H5.1.R/SK/SPB/2009 concerning the Transfer of Management of the Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the USU Postgraduate School to the USU Faculty of Pharmacy, then operationally all processes and management of academic administration, learning processes, and financial management were transferred and carried out by the USU Faculty of Pharmacy with the Head of Study Program, Prof. Dr. Urip Harahap, Apt. and Secretary of Study Program, the late Prof. Dr. Karsono, Apt.

2010

Only 1 year later, the leadership in the USU Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences changed again with the Head of the Study Program, the late Prof. Dr. Karsono, Apt., and Secretary of the Study Program, Prof. Dr. Rosidah, M.Si., Apt.

2015

On July 10, 2015, the USU Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences again received a B accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT).

2016

The leadership of the USU Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences is still entrusted to the late Prof. Dr. Karsono, Apt. as the Head of the Study Program, and Prof. Dr. Rosidah, M.Si., Apt. as the Secretary of the Study Program.

2017

Not even 1 year of carrying out his duties in the second period as Head of the Study Program, the late Prof. Dr. Karsono, Apt. passed away and was then replaced by Prof. Dr. Urip Harahap, Apt. with Prof. Dr. Rosidah, M.Si., Apt. remaining as Secretary of the Study Program.

2020

The year 2020 was a glorious time for the USU Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences because in 2020, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Urip Harahap, Apt. and Prof. Dr. Rosidah, M.Si., Apt., the USU Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences succeeded in obtaining an A (Very Good) Accreditation from the Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health (LAM-PTKes).

2021

Precisely in October 2021, the leadership of the Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences changed again with the formation of Yuandani, M.Si., Ph.D., Apt. as Head of the Study Program and Emil Salim, S.Farm., M.Sc., Ph.D., Apt. as Secretary of the Study Program.

2022

Precisely on August 17, 2022, the USU Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences under the leadership of Yuandani, M.Si., Ph.D., Apt. and Emil Salim, S.Farm., M.Sc., Ph.D., Apt. received an achievement award as the Third Winner in the Best Study Program Category in Collaboration Reporting Management in 2022.

Organizing an innovative and tested research-based Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences and quality education in the fields of Science, Clinical and Community Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Technology to educate and empower the intellectual abilities of graduates in the field of pharmacy and maintain national integrity and international standards.
Conducting research characterized by excellence in the fields of Pharmaceutical Science, Clinical and Community, and Pharmaceutical Technology that supports the development of research and technology based on Tropical Science and Medicine, Disease Priority, and Natural Resources.
Implementing community service based on research results in the form of dissemination and community empowerment to improve welfare.
Increasing the capacity and carrying capacity and diversifying the USU Master Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Expanding partnerships with various domestic and foreign institutions that support the implementation of the three pillars of higher education.

To produce Master of Pharmaceutical Science graduates who are innovative, proven, qualified, have high integrity, and meet international standards in pharmaceutical science, clinical and community, and pharmaceutical technology.
To conduct innovative and excellent research in the fields of Science, Clinical and Community Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Technology; Tropical Science and Medicine, Disease Priority, and Natural Resources that are worthy of publication in accredited national journals and/or internationally reputable journals.
To improve public welfare and health in general through community service based on research in Pharmaceutical Science, Clinical and Community, and Pharmaceutical Technology.
To expand opportunities for the community at home and abroad, to obtain education at the Master of Pharmaceutical Science level.
To improve the quality of implementing the three pillars of higher education to achieve a superior and international Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Science, Clinical and Community Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Technology.

Students Organization

Himpunan Mahasiswa Pascasarjana Farmasi Universitas Sumatera Utara (HMPF USU)

Himpunan Mahasiswa Pascasarjana Farmasi (English: Pharmacy Postgraduate Student Association), abbreviated as HMPF, is a student organization consisting of students from the Master's and Doctoral Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). This organization is a forum for USU Pharmacy Postgraduate students to develop and actualize their student capacity and potential in the form of aspirations, initiations, or positive and creative ideas through various activities that are relevant to the goals of national education and the vision and mission of the Universitas Sumatera Utara. The organizational structure comprises a head, secretary, treasurer, and several fields, including public relations and publications, education and community service, advocacy and collaboration, and secretarial and entrepreneurship.
