USU PHARMACY PUBLIC RELATIONS - Lecturers of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara carried out community service activities at the Az-Zikro Lailatul Qodar Foundation, Deli Serdang Regency on Saturday, (21/9). This activity is a form of implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which includes education, counseling, and drinking water management for the community.

The service team consisted of Prof. Dr. Muchlisyam, M.Si., Apt, Prof. Dr. Masfria, M.S., Apt, Prof. Dr. Julia Reveny, M.Si., Apt, and Hafid Syahputra S.Farm., M.Si., Apt. Not only lecturers, this service activity also involved students of the USU Undergraduate Program in Pharmacy, namely Harun Akbar, Hilmy Hidayat Gea, and Naina Mayang Anshary, who helped in the community assistance process and contributed to the question and answer session.
The event opened with remarks from the head of the Az-Zikro Lailatul Qodar Foundation, Buya Al Faqir Abdullah Jamal. In his remarks, he thanked the USU Faculty of Pharmacy for choosing his foundation as a place of service. Buya Abdullah Jamal also hopes that this activity can provide great benefits to the surrounding community, especially in improving the quality of life through an understanding of drinking water that is suitable for consumption.
The event was attended by various groups, including village officials, the Mosque Welfare Board (BKM), the congregation of the surrounding mosque, and students from the Islamic boarding school in the Az-Zikro Lailatul Qodar Foundation environment. This community service is focused on the utilization of drinking water, with the aim of providing an understanding of good water quality, its processing, and health benefits.
Prof. Dr. Muchlisyam, M.Si., Apt. explained that good quality drinking water is very important for the health of the body. Polluted water can cause various diseases, especially those related to the digestive tract. Therefore, the selection of safe water sources and the correct treatment process must be considered.
Prof. Dr. Masfria, M.S., Apt. added that water that is clean and fit for consumption must not only be free from chemical and microbial contaminants, but must also meet appropriate taste, color, and odor standards. She provided participants with an understanding of the parameters used to assess drinking water quality, such as pH, turbidity level, and mineral content.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Julia Reveny, M.Si., Apt. explained the benefits of good quality drinking water for long-term health. She explained that adequate and quality water intake can support body functions, facilitate metabolism, and prevent dehydration.
The enthusiasm of the participants was very high. Many of them asked questions related to how to ensure the quality of drinking water in their respective homes. Village officials and BKM also actively participated in the discussion session, providing views on the challenges faced in maintaining water quality in their areas. The students who attended were equally enthusiastic. They were very interested in the explanation of healthy drinking water treatment and its benefits to the body. This provided new insights for those living in a pesantren environment.
Hafid Syahputra S.Farm, M.Si., Apt. emphasized the importance of public awareness in protecting water resources. He explained that water is one of the vital sources of life, but its quality is often neglected. Therefore, through the education provided in this activity, it is hoped that the community can be wiser in managing and using water.
This activity not only provides education for the community, but also strengthens the relationship between the academic world and the wider community. It is hoped that similar activities can continue to be carried out in the future, with more diverse themes and touching on various aspects of community life.
