HUMAS FARMASI USU – More good news has come from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Helen, a student of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU, successfully won 3rd Place in the Patient Counseling Competition (PCC) PHARMACITO 2026, a competition that assesses pharmacy students’ abilities to provide patient counseling and education effectively, communicatively, and professionally.

The achievement was earned through a project entitled “SHIELD: Strengthening HIV Interventions through Education, Literacy, and Development,” which highlights the importance of strengthening HIV interventions through education, improved health literacy, and the development of sustainable programs. This topic is highly relevant given the continuing need to enhance public understanding of comprehensive HIV prevention, treatment, and management.

The Patient Counseling Competition (PCC) is a competitive event designed to strengthen pharmacy students’ skills in communicating with patients, delivering accurate medication information, and understandably providing health education. The competition also serves as a platform for students to develop the professional competencies required in future pharmacy practice.

Helen’s success in securing 3rd Place demonstrates the dedication, hard work, and academic excellence of Faculty of Pharmacy USU students. In addition to showcasing strong pharmaceutical knowledge, this achievement reflects the ability to integrate health communication and patient education as essential components of patient-centered pharmaceutical care.

This accomplishment is expected to inspire other students to continue developing their potential, actively participate in academic competitions, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and healthcare services. The Faculty of Pharmacy USU remains committed to supporting its students in achieving excellence and bringing honor to the institution at both national and international levels.

The achievement in the Patient Counseling Competition (PCC) PHARMACITO 2026 also supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being
Through strengthening education and health literacy related to HIV, the project contributes to increasing public awareness of disease prevention and management to support better health outcomes.

SDG 4 – Quality Education
Participation in academic competitions encourages the development of student competencies, particularly in health communication, patient education, and the application of pharmaceutical knowledge.

SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities
Improving health literacy regarding HIV can help reduce stigma and promote more inclusive access to health information for all members of society.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
This competition serves as a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange among students, educational institutions, and stakeholders in supporting the improvement of healthcare service quality.

Through this achievement, the Faculty of Pharmacy USU hopes to continue producing outstanding, innovative, and competitive students who are capable of making meaningful contributions to the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences and the improvement of public health.
