PUBLIC RELATION OF PHARMACY USU - International Summer Course of Pharmacy (ISCP) is an annual programme conducted by the Faculty of Pharmacy at USU, inviting National and International speakers to present Pharmaceutical and Science topics. This activity was opened by the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S. Sos, M.Si., and the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, apt. Khairunnisa, S.S.i., M.Pharm., Ph.D., and conducted from July 31 to August 9, 2023, by hybrid. The Chancellor of USU also gave an opening speech to this event, thanking the Faculty of Pharmacy and all committees for handling the annual event "International Summer Course of Pharmacy 2023". This activity is expected to increase participants’ knowledge to discuss critical issues related to the health sector and foster their knowledge in the field of Traditional medicine from the various perspectives of invited speakers. In addition, this programme is also believed to increase USU’s potential as a world-class university.

In line with the Chancellor of USU, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy also expressed gratitude to the committee for conducting the "International Summer Course of Pharmacy 2023". This programme is expected to provide knowledge for participants to understand the concept of "Traditional, complementary, and Integrative Medicine" and how it can be applied in research and learning. The Dean also thanked all the speakers who attended and expressed hope that ISCP 2023 can acquaint the Faculty of Pharmacy Internationally.

Participants who joined this event were students from domestic and foreign countries. On the first day, two speakers joined the programme. The first topic, "Nanotechnology in Herbal Medicine," was held by Prof. Ismail Tuncer DEĞİM from the School of Pharmacy at Biruni University-Turkey, and the second topic, "Traditional Medicines: Past, Present, and Future Research and Development," was carried out by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary from the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences at the University of Karachi, Pakistan. Both speakers were guided by Dr. Rony Abdi Syahputra, M. Farm.

After the speakers finish presenting the topics, every participant will be given 30 minutes for discussion with the speakers, ending with post-tests for the participants from the committee. On the next day, every participant will be given topics  of speaker from domesctic and foreign countries, there are Dr. Marissa Angelina, S.Si., Apt. National Research and Innovation Agency – Indonesia) and Dr. (Cand.) dr. Inggrid Tania, M.Si., (Herbs) from Indonesian Medical Association for the Development of Traditional Medicine – Indonesia who will present the topic on the second day with Dr. Denny Satria, S. Farm., M.Si., Apt. as the moderator. Moreover, on the third day, there 2 topics will be presented, first Prof. Dr. Jamia Azdina Jamal from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Prof. Dr. Jansen Silalahi, M.App.Sc., Apt. from the Faculty of Pharmacy USU, with M. Fauzan Nasution as moderator. 

On the fourth day, the participants will receive the topic from Prof. Dr. Sukanya Dej-Adisai from Prince Songkla University, Thailand, with the title Traditional Medicines in the Health Care System. The second topic will be held by Apt. Surya Wahyudi, S.Si., MM, C. Herb, Akp, from the Central Board of Indonesian Pharmacist Association with the title International Regulation Cooperation for Herbal Medicines. On the next day, there will be a workshop conducted by several lectures from the Laboratory of Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy, USU, such as Dr. Aminah Dalimunthe, M.Si., Apt., and Dadang Irfan Husori, S.Si., M.Sc., Apt., by hybrid.

On the sixth and seventh days, fieldtrip activities were conducted by visiting several destinations, such as Ancol Rafting River Tebing Tinggi, Lake Toba Parapat, Samosir Island, and Medan City Tour. ISCP activities on the eighth day will be held by giving some assignments to participants, which will be presented online on the next day. Furthermore, at 1 pm, there will be Medan City Tour activities by visiting several landmarks in Medan, such as Tjong A Fie Mansion, Maimun Palace, and Al-Matsum Grand Mosque of Medan. On the last day, the ISCP programme was closed by playing video recordings during the field trip and Medan City Tour. Besides, there was also an announcement of the lists of the best participants to get certificates and rewards. Moreover, ISCP programme was closed by the Head Committee of ISCP 2023, Dr. Sumaiyah, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., and taking pictures together for all participants and the committee of ISCP 2023.
