A total of 113 students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, were sworn in as pharmacists after passing the Indonesian Pharmacist Competency Examination (UKAI) on November 15, 2018. The solemn ceremony was attended by representatives from various health and pharmacy organizations.

In a solemn atmosphere under the guidance of spiritual leaders, 113 students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, who had completed the Pharmacist Professional Program and passed the Indonesian Pharmacist Competency Examination (UKAI), took their oaths according to their respective religions. The ceremony was held at the Faculty of Pharmacy Hall, Universitas Sumatera Utara, on Thursday, November 15, 2018. Representing the Rector of USU, Vice Rector II, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked. (O.G.), Sp.O.G. (K.), attended the event.

Additionally, the ceremony was attended by representatives from the Provincial Health Office of North Sumatra, Medan City Health Office, National Pharmacy Committee (KFN), Central Board of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI), Haji Adam Malik General Hospital, Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital, PT Kimia Farma Sumut and Medan, Medan Branch of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), IAI North Sumatra and Medan, as well as private pharmacy higher education leaders in Medan.

In his speech, Vice Rector II congratulated all students from the 24th cohort of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU who successfully achieved their dreams of becoming pharmacists. To complement their professional recognition, pharmacist competency certificates were also presented.

“With the taking of this oath and pledge, you are now bound by professional responsibility for all matters related to pharmaceutical work and practice. This responsibility also encompasses making decisions that align with values, regulations, and applicable laws,” said Prof. Fidel Ganis.

He further explained that pharmaceutical knowledge is a skill that demands not only practical and scientific competence but also the responsibility to keep pharmaceutical knowledge confidential from anything contrary to humanity and harmful to the environment.

“A pharmacist should fully utilize their knowledge to enhance human life, both in terms of health and survival. In carrying out their professional duties, pharmacists are also expected to avoid being influenced by considerations of religion, nationality, ethnicity, politics, or social status, but rather act solely for humanity and the greater good of mankind,” emphasized the Vice Rector II.

He also reminded the audience that the Faculty of Pharmacy USU's achievement of Accreditation A and ISO 9001:2015, with a Gold category for the Pharmacy Program and Silver for the Pharmacist Program, should serve as motivation to strive harder and do better. This will allow the Faculty of Pharmacy USU to catch up with, equal, or even surpass other pharmacy faculties in Indonesia.

“Once again, I congratulate you on embarking on your new duties and profession. May all your efforts and hard work receive blessings from Allah SWT,” concluded Prof. Fidel.
