The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Runtung, S.H., M.Hum., stated that the Universitas Sumatera Utara Board of Trustees Regulation (MWA USU) Number 16 of 2016 concerning the Organization and Governance of Universitas Sumatera Utara (Ortala USU) is a new regulation that must be implemented. The inauguration of structural officials within the university is a form of rotation or replacement to optimize the functions and main tasks of every echelon, as mandated by the MWA regulation. This was conveyed by the Rector after inaugurating 105 structural officials for echelons II, III, and IV at the Student Hall on Friday (3/3).
In his remarks, the Rector emphasized, “Our task is not merely to accumulate wealth but to ensure our university becomes more qualified. The government demands that we provide the best services in higher education. Therefore, as leaders, we continuously strive to improve the welfare of lecturers, faculty leaders, echelon II, III, and IV officials, as well as all employees at Universitas Sumatera Utara.”
The Rector also highlighted the importance of making adjustments toward improvement. “I always think about how we can feel happy as one big family at Universitas Sumatera Utara. We continuously strive to optimize the management of university assets for the welfare of all of us,” he said.
The Rector gave a special message to former officials, saying, “There are two echelon II officials, such as Mr. Abdul Maulud and Mrs. Hindun. Please do not feel disheartened. There are many things we can still do, even if not as heads of bureaus. We have a lot of potential, such as building hotels, messes, and other business units. For instance, Tambunan Plantation and the Bekala Campus can soon be developed into agro-tourism destinations. So, please do not feel undervalued,” he stressed.
The Rector also emphasized the importance of teamwork and innovation. “There are many business units we can develop together. All work will improve if carried out with proper exploration and preparation. I always avoid personal considerations, except those related to the interests of Universitas Sumatera Utara,” he added.
To the faculty leaders, the Rector asked for special attention to personnel placement. “If there is a placement that feels less suitable, approach them well and make them partners. That way, all newly appointed officials can work optimally,” he said.
The Rector also invited the new officials to collaborate in building the university. “Eliminate the culture of fear. We are always ready to help resolve any issues encountered in daily tasks. Every problem has a solution,” concluded the Rector.
