Medan, September 8, 2026 — The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), continues to strengthen its commitment to promoting internationalization through the development of networks and academic cooperation with higher education institutions at the global level. This effort was realized through the visit of Gyeongkuk National University (GKNU), Korea, to Universitas Sumatera Utara, which served as an opportunity to explore potential collaboration in education, research, and innovation.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the Faculty of Pharmacy USU to initiate cooperation with the Department of Vaccine Biotechnology, Gyeongkuk National University, particularly in exploring potential collaboration in vaccine biotechnology, research, and academic development.
The meeting was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU, Prof. Khairunnisa, S.Si., M.Pharm., Ph.D., Apt., accompanied by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization, Dr. Apt. Henny Sri Wahyuni, S.Farm., M.Si.
The meeting between the two institutions served as a forum for exchanging information regarding potential areas of cooperation and opportunities for collaboration that can be pursued in the future. Vaccine biotechnology is one of the strategic areas that can be developed through joint research, knowledge exchange, human resource capacity development, and other academic activities.
For the Faculty of Pharmacy USU, the initiation of international collaboration is a strategic step toward expanding academic networks while improving the quality of education and research. Cooperation with an institution from Korea is expected to open opportunities for lecturers and students to participate in international-scale academic and research activities, thereby enriching their experiences and increasing the competitiveness of the academic community.
The development of collaboration in vaccine biotechnology is also highly relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From the perspective of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, research collaboration in the field of vaccines has the potential to support the development of health innovations and technologies that contribute to improving public health.
Furthermore, academic cooperation and knowledge exchange between the Faculty of Pharmacy USU and Gyeongkuk National University support SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly through strengthening quality education, developing academic competencies, and expanding access to international academic networks and experiences.
This cross-border cooperation initiative also directly reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Partnerships between higher education institutions in Indonesia and Korea are an important part of building global collaboration, bringing together expertise and resources, and encouraging the creation of innovations that can benefit society.
Through the visit to Gyeongkuk National University, the Faculty of Pharmacy USU reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to strengthen internationalization and building strategic partnerships with higher education institutions in various countries. This meeting is expected to serve as an initial step toward sustainable collaboration in education, research, and innovation, particularly in the development of vaccine biotechnology, while strengthening the contribution of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU to the development of pharmaceutical sciences at the national and global levels.
