Postgraduate students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held a social service and iftar event to serve the community, promote humanitarian values, and support the achievement of the SDGs.

USU PHARMACY PR — Postgraduate students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), organized a social service and iftar gathering as a form of community service and an effort to strengthen humanitarian values, solidarity, and contribution toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This initiative included the distribution of basic food packages, medicines, free health check-ups, and educational sessions on proper medication use and healthy lifestyle practices. The event continued with a communal iftar as a symbol of unity within the academic community.

Organized by postgraduate students of the Faculty of Pharmacy USU, the event also involved faculty members and administrative staff, and was dedicated to orphans and caretakers of the Rumah Yatim under the management of a zakat organization.

The social service activities were held at Rumah Yatim (zakat institution), while the iftar gathering took place at Kampung Kecil, Medan.

The objectives of this program were to:

  • Ease the burden of underprivileged communities, particularly orphans.

  • Improve public health and awareness regarding the proper use of medicines.

  • Instill social awareness and moral responsibility among students as members of the academic community.

Assistance was delivered directly by students and lecturers in the form of food packages and free health services. They also provided interactive health education. The event concluded with a warm and communal iftar.

This program is expected to become an annual tradition that not only delivers tangible benefits to the community but also strengthens student character and empathy as agents of social change. Through this small step, the Faculty of Pharmacy at USU contributes to building a healthier, more equitable, and empowered society.
