USU PHARMACY PUBLIC RELATIONS - The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held a Top Scientist 2022 Webinar with the theme “Selective Tumor-Targeting with Drug Conjugates” on Tuesday (11/22) online through the Zoom Meeting platform. The webinar activity took place from 13.30 WIB until completion. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si, as the Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara, delivered the opening speech.
The keynote speaker at this webinar was Evamarie Hey-Hawkins (Leipzig University, Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy). As we know, cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Chemotherapy is the most common treatment but is often accompanied by significant side effects. Therefore, the search for new antitumor agents and therapeutic methods is crucial. The Hey-Hawkins group designed metal-based chemotherapeutic agents that, when combined with biologically active compounds or drugs already used in cancer therapy, have higher selectivity and activity against tumor cells (hybrid compounds, dual therapy).
