The Faculty of Pharmacy USU successfully held the 2022 International Summer Course of Pharmacy (ISCP) hybrid, featuring 314 participants from various countries. The event covered herbal medicine, workshops, field trips, and cultural explorations, supporting international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The Faculty of Pharmacy at USU held the International Summer Course of Pharmacy (ISCP) 2022 in a hybrid format from August 1-11, 2022. The ISCP was opened by Dr. Rudy Sofyan, S.S., M.Hum., with remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Khairunnisa, S.Si., M.Pharm., Ph.D., Apt.
ISCP is a program that accommodates the involvement of international students and lecturers at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Undergraduate Program in Pharmacy, as an effort to align the study program's vision with the faculty's vision, which is "Excellent and Internationally Recognized."
The theme of ISCP 2022 was "Herbal Medicine: Technology and Innovation," aimed at introducing the study program's areas of excellence, supporting USU's internationalization program, showcasing local regions with potential as sources of medicinal plants, introducing Indonesian culture to the international community, and as an implementation of cooperation between the faculty and other institutions or organizations.
A total of 314 students were registered as participants in ISCP, consisting of 285 domestic participants and 29 international participants (Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, and Turkey).
The series of ISCP activities included 6 lectures, 2 workshops, a field trip, and a Medan city tour. The lectures were delivered by both domestic and international speakers, including Roza Dianita (Universiti Sains Malaysia), Ratna Saptarina (PT. Kimia Farma Tbk), Juriyati Jalil (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Gunawan Indrayanto (Universitas Surabaya), Riyanto Teguh Widodo (Universiti Malaya), and Imam Bagus Sumantri (Universitas Sumatera Utara). The workshops were facilitated by lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Sumatera Utara, covering topics such as extraction from medicinal plants, led by Imam Bagus Sumantri, Sony Eka Nugraha, and M. Fauzan Lubis, and natural-based cosmetic workshops, including anti-aging cream and body scrub, facilitated by Julia Reveny, Anayanti Arianto, T. Ismanelly Hanum, Nazliniwaty, and Sumaiyah, Dwi Lestari.
The field trip was attended by offline participants and included observations of the Sibual Buali tropical forest in Sipirok, South Tapanuli Regency, while also exploring medicinal plants of North Sumatra. Participants trekked while learning about the surrounding plants. In addition to exploring Sibual Buali, the trip continued to Tipang Village, Marbuntoruan Village, and Lake Toba.
The field trip not only served as a cultural and natural exploration journey but also provided participants with the task of selecting one plant encountered during the trip as a subject for their presentations.
Participant presentations were evaluated, and awards were given to the 3 best presenters. Additionally, there were other categories, including the highest post-test score and the most active participants.
Previously, post-tests were held after each lecture and workshop, with points from these post-tests serving as the basis for calculating scores for the highest score category.
Best presenters: - Madeline Hana Tasya Siburian (USU-Indonesia) - Ezra Mirael (USU-Indonesia) - Maria Katrina (AUP-Philippines)
Most active participants: - Devindi Rodrigo (Colombo-Sri Lanka) - Maria Katrina (AUP-Philippines)
The closing ceremony was conducted by the Chairperson of the Committee, Dr. Sumaiyah, S.Si., M.Si., Apt.
