Lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, conducted community service at UPT SDN 060796, focusing on Covid-19 education, hand sanitizer production, and proper handwashing techniques. The activity empowered students to become junior pharmacists who can share health knowledge.

Lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara, carried out a community service activity at UPT SDN 060796 on Tuesday (19/7). The community service team was led by Dra. Singgar Ni Rudang, M.Si., Apt., with members Embun Suci Nasution, S.Si., M.Farm.Klin., Apt. In addition to lecturers, the activity also involved 5 undergraduate pharmacy students from USU and 6 alumni of PSPA, who are members of PC IAI Kota Medan and representatives of the postgraduate student association of the Faculty of Pharmacy, USU.

 

 

Under the theme "Covid-19 Education, Hand Sanitizer Production, and Proper Handwashing Education to Empower Students as Junior Pharmacists at UPT SDN 060796," the lecturers introduced the pharmacist profession, medicines, and the key aspects of medicine use: Obtain, Use, Store, and Dispose (Dagusibu).

 

According to the team leader, Dra. Singgar Ni Rudang, M.Si., Apt., the activity was conducted using the Active Learning Method (CBSA). Participants were divided into groups to facilitate discussions, express opinions, ask questions, and learn independently and actively. Furthermore, she added that participants, who were representatives of OSIS and scouting organizations, are expected to become junior pharmacists at school, capable of sharing the knowledge and skills they acquired with their peers.

 

 

"Through this activity, we hope that students will become more familiar with the pharmacist profession, understand the roles and functions of pharmacists, gain knowledge about medicines, understand the aspects to consider when using medicines (name, composition, indications, usage instructions, side effects, contraindications, storage, and expiration date), comprehend Dagusibu, increase awareness about Covid-19, learn proper handwashing techniques, and understand how to produce hand sanitizer from natural ingredients," she said. On this occasion, the team leader also announced that the second session of the Community Service Program will be held again on Tuesday (9/8).
