Flooding remains one of the most frequent hydrometeorological disasters in Sumatra. In recent years, floods have affected various provinces, including North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Aceh, and South Sumatra, inundating thousands of homes, disrupting economic activities, and forcing tens of thousands of residents to evacuate. Disaster data indicate that extreme rainfall, environmental degradation, and land-use change are the main factors contributing to the increasing flood risk across the region.
Through the Impactful Students Program, students are encouraged to take an active role in post-disaster community empowerment, not only focusing on physical recovery but also strengthening social resilience, local economies, and community capacity to better withstand future disasters. This program represents a tangible contribution by students to support sustainable recovery efforts in Sumatra.
