Three young lecturers from the USU Faculty of Pharmacy have been awarded the prestigious 2025 PDDI Doctoral Scholarship by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia. This achievement highlights USU’s growing academic quality and its contribution to education, research, and pharmaceutical innovation nationwide.

USU Pharmacy Public Relations – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), has once again achieved a proud milestone. Three young lecturers from the faculty successfully passed the selection for the 2025 Program Doktor untuk Dosen Indonesia (PDDI) Scholarship organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. This program is part of the government’s effort to enhance the quality of human resources (HR) among lecturers across Indonesia so they can contribute more significantly to education, research, and innovation.

The three lecturers who won the PDDI 2025 Scholarship are:

  • apt. Nurul Suci, S.Farm., M.Farm., specializing in Pharmaceutics.

  • apt. Chemayanti Surbakti, S.Farm., M.Si., specializing in Pharmaceutical Biology.

  • apt. Nasri, S.Farm., M.Farm., specializing in Medicinal Chemistry.

They are known for being active in academic and research activities, as well as their commitment to developing innovative pharmaceutical sciences that benefit society.

The PDDI 2025 Scholarship is a prestigious national program that provides opportunities for young lecturers to pursue doctoral studies, either in Indonesia or abroad. The program not only provides financial support but also opens opportunities for research collaboration, international academic networking, and the realization of research relevant to national needs.

The program is managed directly by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia. Scholarship recipients will be placed in leading universities both domestically and internationally, according to their field of study and research plan.

The official announcement of the PDDI 2025 results was made in August 2025 after a long and rigorous selection process.

The success of these three lecturers demonstrates that the quality of human resources at USU continues to improve and can compete nationally. This achievement is not only an individual success but also a tangible contribution of USU in supporting the government’s vision of producing excellent, innovative, and globally competitive educators and researchers.

The PDDI 2025 selection process included several stages, from administrative screening, assessment of academic track records, evaluation of research proposals, to in-depth interviews. Out of thousands of applicants nationwide, only a small number were accepted. The three lecturers from the USU Faculty of Pharmacy proved their competence in academics, research, and their potential contributions to pharmaceutical science development.

This accomplishment strongly aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 4 (Quality Education): improving lecturers’ qualifications to deliver better education for students.

  • SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being): supporting drug discovery, innovative therapies, and public health improvement through research in pharmacy, biology, and medicinal chemistry.

  • SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure): fostering pharmaceutical research for drug and biotechnology industry development in Indonesia.

  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): promoting research collaboration between Indonesian lecturers and international universities and researchers.

With this success, the USU Faculty of Pharmacy further strengthens its position as a higher education institution committed to advancing knowledge, health, and innovation for national development.
