HUMAS FAKULTAS FARMASI USUAs part of the National Action for the Prevention of the Misuse of Certain Drugs (OOT), the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), attended and witnessed the destruction of confiscated Certain Drugs (OOT), illegal cosmetics, food, and beverages conducted by the National Agency of Drug and Food Control Regional Office in Medan on May 26, 2026.

This activity was one of the strategic measures undertaken to protect the public from the risks associated with the distribution of products that do not comply with safety, quality, efficacy/benefit, and legal requirements. The products destroyed were the result of monitoring and enforcement actions carried out by BBPOM against various products that could potentially endanger public health if circulated and used freely.

The destruction of these illegal products serves as a tangible demonstration of the commitment of the government and various stakeholders to ensuring the safety of medicines and food products in Indonesia. In addition to preventing the recirculation of products that fail to meet established standards, the activity also functions as a preventive measure to protect the public from health risks that may arise from the use of illegal products or the misuse of certain medications.

As a higher education institution specializing in pharmaceutical sciences, the Faculty of Pharmacy USU fully supports efforts to strengthen the supervision and regulation of medicines and food products carried out by the relevant authorities. Ensuring the safety of medicines and food is a crucial component of achieving optimal public health and requires the active participation of all sectors of society.

The Faculty of Pharmacy USU views this activity as an important opportunity to reinforce public awareness regarding the importance of using legal, safe, and quality-assured products. Through collaboration among regulatory agencies, educational institutions, healthcare professionals, and the wider community, the risks associated with illegal products and the misuse of certain drugs can be effectively minimized.

This initiative also reflects a shared commitment to promoting a healthier society through stronger regulatory enforcement, public education, and continuous efforts to safeguard consumer protection in the fields of pharmaceuticals and food safety.
