USU PHARMACY PR - USU Faculty of Pharmacy lecturers conducted community service activities in Gajah Village, Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency, on Saturday (20/8). This community service activity was chaired by Hari Ronaldo Tanjung, S.Si., M.Sc., Apt., with members Khairunnisa, S.Si., M.Pharm., Ph.D., Apt., Yade Metri Permata, S.Farm., M.Si., Apt., and Lisda Rimayani Nasution, S.Farm., M.Si., Apt., and assisted by USU Undergraduate Pharmacy students Devi Agripina Saragi, Lila Hesarsila, Michellin Luiz Khan, and Mhd. Sarwan Simatupang.

This community service team educates the community about processing and developing Gajah Village crops. Since the crop of Gajah Village is coffee, the team presented one example of processing and developing coffee skin waste into herbal drinks as a source of antioxidants. This development material was delivered in the form of presentations and videos. In the presentation, the team developed coffee skin waste into a preparation in the form of tea bags with the name RaJa Celup Tea (CascaRA JAhe), with the hope of increasing the selling value of coffee skin waste to improve the standard of living of the Gajah Village community.

The Gajah Village residents were very enthusiastic. This was seen in the question-and-answer session, where many asked questions related to the processing and development process that had been carried out by the service team. In addition, the villagers were also very eager to find out how to serve the RaJa Teabag they obtained.

Team member Yade Metri Permata, S.Farm, M.Si., Apt. said, "The teabag product made has passed testing at the USU Pharmaceutical Biology Laboratory, namely mold testing, ash content testing, and juice content testing. The results obtained also meet SNI requirements."

The Head of Gajah Village, Erguna Karo-Karo, expressed his gratitude to the USU Pharmacy service team for choosing Gajah Village as a place to carry out the service. He also hopes that the Gajah Village community can understand and develop coffee skin waste as directed by the team.
