The Faculty of Pharmacy at USU held a doctoral open defense for Wahyudi, whose research focused on pharmacist interventions in type 2 diabetes therapy. His study highlights the role of pharmacoeconomics and reflects USU’s commitment to quality education and the SDGs.

USU PHARMACY PUBLIC RELATIONS — The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through the Doctoral Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, held the Doctoral Promotion Examination (Open Defense) for Wahyudi on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM WIB in the IMG–GT Room, USU Rectorate Building.

During the defense, Wahyudi presented and defended his dissertation entitled:
"The Effect of Pharmacist Intervention on Drug-Related Problems, Effectiveness, and Cost-Utility of Outpatient Type 2 Diabetes Therapy Models."

The dissertation offers an in-depth analysis of the role of pharmacist intervention in the management of type 2 diabetes patients in outpatient care, including its impact on treatment effectiveness, drug-related problems (DRPs), and therapy cost efficiency. The research is expected to contribute significantly to clinical pharmacy practice and evidence-based decision-making in pharmacoeconomics.

Wahyudi successfully defended his dissertation before the examining committee and was declared passed with distinction, officially earning the title of Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The doctoral promotion examination marks the highest academic achievement at the doctoral level and recognizes scientific contributions in pharmaceutical research. Wahyudi’s research is not only relevant to academia but also has practical implications for improving healthcare services in Indonesia.

This event also supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by focusing on more effective therapies and efficient health services.

  • SDG 4: Quality Education, through the graduation of competent doctoral-level researchers with real impact on society.

With this achievement, the Faculty of Pharmacy at USU once again demonstrates its commitment to producing outstanding scholars and professionals capable of addressing health and pharmaceutical challenges in a globalized era.
