USU PHARMACY PUBLIC RELATIONS - USU Faculty of Pharmacy lecturers conducted community service in Rumah Berastagi Village, Karo Regency, on Friday (12/7) with the theme “Increasing the Knowledge of the Rumah Berastagi Village Resident about Medicine and Utilizing the Remaining Agricultural Products of Carrot Fruit (Dauscus carota L) as Skin Moisturizing Soap.”

Dr. Sumaiyah, M.Si., Apt, led this service, which consists of Dra. Singgar Ni Rudang, M.Si., Apt., Dr. T. Ismanelly Hanum, S.Si., M.Si. Apt., and Ade Sri Rohani, S.Farm., M.Farm. Apt., and assisted by three students of the USU Undergraduate Program in Pharmacy, namely Dwi Putri Yolanda Barus, Tessa Rotua Victoria Sormin, and Maria Nada Resta Sihotang.

Previously, the team had discussed with the Village Head of Rumah Berastagi, Pebrisiswanta Purba, and it was known that Rumah Berastagi Village is a village that has agricultural potential, such as carrots. However, when harvested, not all carrots have a selling value. Most farmers leave harvested waste to rot in the field while waiting until the next time land cultivation is carried out. Partners also lack education related to health, medicine, and proper medicine use. This is known from the high use of irrational drugs in the community. Dr. Sumaiyah, M.Si., Apt., as the head of the service team, explained that this was the background for this service to be carried out in Rumah Berastagi Village.

To increase community awareness and knowledge about the correct use of drugs, the team held a series of workshops and seminars in the form of:

1. Socialization of DAGUSIBU drugs, namely how to get, use, store, and dispose of drugs correctly, to increase public understanding of drugs.

2. Material by Dra. Singgar Ni Rudang, M.Si., Apt about skin and various skin problems.

3. Material by Dr. T. Ismanelly Hanum, S.Si., M.Si. Apt about the various benefits of carrots, especially those that can moisturize and maintain healthy skin.

4. The last material by Ade Sri Rohani, S.Farm, M.Farm. Apt about the business plan of the skin moisturizing bath soap product made.

The Village Head of Rumah Berastagi expressed his deepest gratitude to the USU Faculty of Pharmacy Service Team for visiting and helping to find solutions to the problem of the large amount of carrot agricultural waste often wasted on agricultural land.
