USU Faculty of Pharmacy lecturers continued community service with session 2 at UPT SDN 060796 on August 9, 2022, educating students about Covid-19, hand washing, and making natural hand sanitizers. This activity is expected to motivate students to be creative and utilize the potential of natural materials.
Faculty members of the USU Faculty of Pharmacy conducted the second community service session at UPT SDN 060796 on Tuesday (9/8). Previously, the first session was held on 19/7 by the community service team led by Dra. Singgar Ni Rudang, M.Si., Apt., with team members Embun Suci Nasution, S.Si., M.Farm.Klin., Apt., and assisted by five undergraduate Pharmacy students from USU: Murobbi, Adhe Permata Syafruzar, Nurul Aini, Angga Rafa Mahardika, and Safni Wirda.
The second session began with brainstorming to review the material presented during the first session (19/7) and to check the assignments given to Gema Cermat and Dagusibu participants.
Under the theme "Covid-19 Education, Hand Sanitizer Production, and Proper Handwashing Practices to Empower Students as Young Pharmacists at UPT SDN 060796", the team educated students about Covid-19, proper handwashing techniques, and the potential of natural ingredients for making homemade hand sanitizers, such as lemongrass and cloves, as well as conducting practical simulations.
Dra. Singgar Ni Rudang, M.Si., Apt., the head of the community service team, stated, “This activity is conducted using the Active Student Learning Method (CBSA), where the participants, who are representatives of student organizations, actively participate and are expected to become young pharmacists at their schools, thereby spreading the knowledge and skills they acquire to their peers and families.”
"We hope that through this activity, students will gain a better understanding of the profession, roles, and functions of pharmacists, learn about medicines, understand Dagusibu, and improve their knowledge of Covid-19, proper handwashing, and the preparation of natural hand sanitizers. This is expected to motivate students to creatively utilize natural resources," she added.
The school principal, Masnelly, S.Pd., expressed gratitude for SDN 060796 being chosen as a community service partner. The students were also very enthusiastic, as they not only gained knowledge and skills but also received various gifts such as hats and young pharmacist pins, and had the opportunity to practice handwashing and make hand sanitizers. He hopes that this collaboration can continue in the future.
